Vigils

TADP holds services and vigils statewide on the eve of an execution to remember all victims of violence and to resist the use of the death penalty. Vigils are held in Memphis, Nashville, and Knoxville and take a variety of forms.

In Nashville, citizens gather at Riverbend Maximum Security Prison in order to serve as a visible witness to an alternative way of responding to violent crime that holds offenders accountable without requiring their deaths. TADP supporters who gather at these vigils represent a significant number of Tennesseans who do not support this policy that uses tax dollars to take a life. During every vigil, the murder victim and surviving family members are remembered as well as the inmate and his/her family.

If anyone would like to hold a vigil in their area, please contact TADP.
