Tennessee Legislation

Study Committee on the Administration of the Death Penalty

A complete study of the entire death penalty system was enacted in 2007 Tennessee Public Acts, Chapter 549, following the bills (105 SB 1911 and 105 HB 2162) that made the committee possible. Committee members, including Sen. Jackson (Dickson), Rep. Coleman (Murfreesboro), Sen. Bunch (Cleveland), and Rep. Dunn (Knoxville), are examining serious problems surrounding Tennessee’s death penalty system.

Video archives of the previous meetings are available online from the state legislature Web site:

In 2010,  Senator Beverly Marrero and Representative Jeanne Richardson sponsored legislation to repeal the death penalty (SB3111 and HB3726).

In 2011, Senator Beverly Marrero and Representative Johnnie Turner sponsored legislation to repeal the death penalty (SB2079 and HB1770)
